Redwood Forests

October 22 – 25, 2014: Inside Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park we did the Simpson-Reed and Stout Grove hikes. Both were essentially short strolls and were a peaceful and relaxing introduction to California.

Oregon Coast

October 19 – 22, 2014: We love cheese. Our first stop as we headed from Portland towards the Oregon coastline was in Tillamook at the Tillamook cheese factory. We quickly completed the self-guided tour to get to the cheese samples and ice cream.

Columbia River Gorge

October 14 – 17, 2014: Departing Mount St. Helens and the Ape Caves, we headed to the Columbia River Gorge area. The Columbia River Gorge is the largest scenic area in the United States, extending more than 100 miles east of Portland, and consists of a very diverse landscape carving a canyon between Washington and Oregon

Back in the U.S.A.: Seattle, Washington

October 11 – 13, 2014: I really was disappointed that we didn’t get out to Vancouver Island and the San Juan Islands, however, the weather conditions combined with the unexpected amount of time already spent in Canada pushed us back into the United States.

The Wine Capital of Canada

October 2 – 7, 2014: We departed Jasper and, after spending a night in Blue River, British Columbia (which was a pretty creepy town), arrived in Oliver, British Columbia. Oliver is south of Kelowna and the entire area is known as Canadian wine country. Amazingly, we arrived just in time for the annual wine festival.
